Shingles On Roof

Tuesday was a busy day. My brother Jim brought our tractor with the backhoe on and we used it to remove some earth from inside the garage. He ran the backhoe and I worked with the shovel and rake leveling off to final grade. How come I am the guy on the end of a shovel again? Five hours of moving soil tires one out. Once we got the extra earth out we brought in the stone we had and leveled it off. We need more stone, but that will be added by the contractor who pours the floor. Shortly after finishing with the stone and taking Jim home a truck arrived with 22 squares of shingles.

Attached to the bed of the truck is a long elevator that delivers the shingles to the roof. The driver loads the elevator, but you have to provide someone to unload the elevator and place the shingles on the roof.

Adam had two larger friends over for his thirteenth birthday and they agreed to help distribute the shingles.

Here they come, ready or not. That elevator sure saves a lot of work carrying up 66 50 pound packages of shingles up a ladder. The service cost a little, but it is sure worth every penny.

After the shingles were unloaded, Jon and I went to work installing the ceiling joists and rafter over the front entrance.

Each day the project gets closer to being finished.
