A Sad Day

Saturday was another hot humid day, but it was also a sad day because Rocky was killed last night. Rocky was so kind and gentle; not mean at all. We loved having him around and so did the gals. He was their friend and protector. He was very active sexually and had his favorites. Hardly a day went by that you didn’t see him making out with one of the gals. That has all come to an end because Rocky is gone. He stood his ground Friday night, but he was no match for the enemy and now he is no more.

Last week was a rough week for writing blogs and some got missed. With each day near 100 and the humidity very high, energy by the end of the day was pretty much used up and blog writing got replaced with time sleeping. During the afternoon our block layer stopped by to see about pouring the garage floor. He made some comments about the weather and mentioned that one day during the week he was home from work and in the house by 4:30 because he was so tired from the heat and humidity. He said that never happens, but it did this week. So during this hot humid week what did I accomplish?

The following pictures were taken before starting work Saturday morning. Late Saturday afternoon I was too drained to take pictures. I will get them on Monday.

Saturday we trimmed the overhang and sealed the roof. We are now ready to seal the walls.

Six weeks has made a big difference from a hole in the ground to what you see in the above picture. I am now a tough old man, proving that hard work is good for one’s waistline.

I have to build the roof to tie the old house to the new so the rain runs away from the old walls.

You can see the ridge for the rafters coming back to the old roof.

The above picture shows a problem area. Three of these four roofs must come together. It is my job to figure out how to make that happen. Late Saturday afternoon I took some time and made some measurements to determine where I should install a beam between the garage and the old house to carry tails to be added to the trusses from the right.

View of new entryway from below. There will be a six foot deck constructed between the garage and the old house to go under the roof to be built.

It will take about 22 squares of shingles (2200 square feet) to cover the new roof. They will be delivered on Tuesday afternoon. Kitchen cabinets come on August 25th and I have electrical, plumbing, heating, insulation, and drywall yet to do. Don’t forget the siding and two decks to build. And install the doors and windows and the window well for the basement window. The list goes on!

Who is Rocky? He was the big sexy pet roster, so many of the eggs eaten by the family were fertilized. At what point does an egg become a chicken? Try to get your mind around that one!
