On November 27, 2007, I took the following picture of a big hole along the pedestrian walk. It is where a high rise is to be built.
On April 4, 2008, a pretty good sized building had risen up out of the above hole.
On April 20, 2009, it looked even more impressive.
The structure of the building is about finished, but it will be years before the inside will be completely finished. As the building is being built apartments are being sold to individuals who will hold them in an unfinished state as an investment, will finish them off and rent them out, or might actually finish one off and live in it. The apartments can be finished to be very beautiful, but at the time the building is finished, as it about is in the above picture, the apartments are just concrete rooms, arranged by one of several fixed plans.
In front of this building another large hold has been dug.
It took about seventeen months to construct the building shown above. That means I will have to make three more trips to China to show you what rises out of the new hole. By then there will probably be another big hole someplace, which will mean three more trips. A few more trips after that and they will have to put me in a smaller hole and then you won't know what is rising out of these big holes here in China.
I just recently read that someplace in the world a building to be one half mile high is being built and one is in design that will be one mile high. Even taller ones are being considered. It reminds me of the time when everyone in the world spoke the same language. God told them to spread out around the world and fill it with people. But they disobeyed and stopped at a nice building site in the land of Shinar and started on a great city with a tower whose top would reach into the heavens. God came down to look at their project and in comparison to what he could build, it was pretty insignificant. To say the least, he was displeased with their disobedience and decided to make communication with each other difficult and created many languages. He then sent them off to settle in various regions according to their language. I wonder what God thinks about the buildings we build today and our lack of interest in knowing him? I wonder what difficulty he might allow to happen to us?
