Put In The Wrong Place

On May 11, 2008 the picture below shows no pedestrian walk over the street on the left side of the picture; that is no walk over the street where the bus is. There actually is one up the street across from the second red portion of the mall.

The next picture shows the actual bridge.

It actually looks like it is being used. Currently it is the only way across the street now as steel fences have been put up prevent people from crossing. As soon as the crossover was constructed and opened, authorities realized it wasn't going to be used voluntarily, but would require some kind of encouragement to get people to walk up the street to use it when crossing at the intersection where the bus is. Steel fences were built and people would walk around them and out into the circle to get across, creating a very dangerous situation. It got so dangerous and tied up traffic so bad that a decision to build a second bridge right at the intersection was made. The following picture shows the construction.

At Michigan State University - where I was a student and taught for a number of years - they had a good plan regarding students and where they walked. They didn't put up barriers to try to force people to walk where the authorities wanted them to, they simply waited to see where students wore out the grass and made a path. Once the path was formed they would put in a sidewalk and everybody was happy except those who liked to place sidewalks where they looked good not necessarily where they were functional. In some ways we are all like that. We want to live life in a certain way, even if it means that it ends in destruction. God has laid out a path for us to follow that will lead us to eternal life, but we choose what looks good to us, not what is functional.
