Pedestrian Walk Update

For the past four years I have been following the development taking place on the end of town where I used to live. It is an area over a mile long that has been in the process of being torn down and rebuilt. It is another example of forcing out the poorer people and replacing them with the wealthier, which makes much more money for developers and business people.

A few days ago I took my camera and walked the length of the development to record the changes since my spring trip.

Four years ago this was a dirt path and the space where those tall buildings are in the background was occupied by broken down housing and small business.

Two years ago there was a very large hole where this building now stands. It will be open by the time I return in the spring. Notice how people drive on the street. They are going both ways on both sides of the street. It seems to make sense to them to drive this way.

I am looking forward to seeing the inside of this building.

A year ago those tall buildings were just rising out of the ground. Think of all the people who can live there and how much space it would take if they all had private homes like we do in America. Are we being wasteful?

The buildings are gone in this section with just a few people still trying to live here.

As I took the picture with no buildings, to my back was the above picture; a big change.

Sewage stills flows from the old system being destroyed as the new is being built. This sewage flows down the street and into a storm drain to end up in the river.

Last spring this is where the two ladies were sitting on their back patio with sewage seeping out of their back yard. Progress finally caught up with them.

In this next section, the buildings are now gone, but the poor people still try to keep their business going.

There goes a truck load of progress down their humble street as a reminder that they will soon be driven out. Life may be tough in America just now, but life is also tough here.

As the old replaces the new here, how is progress in your life? Is the new that God has to offer actively replacing the old, or are you allowing the world to get in the way? When the unsaved are around you do they actually see and feel the difference or are you too much like them?
