Snack Street

Jiajing’s mom needed to go back to work tonight – November 12, 2008 – and so she wanted to go out for a quick bite to eat. Jiajing’s dad usually works during the evenings and so isn’t home very often for supper. Since the entrance to the snack street is across the road from the apartment, she decided to go there and get us a bowl of Lotus root soup, some hot spicy chicken wings and a side dish of short wide noodles with some green veggies. At the far end of the street there is a rather large room containing many food venders and is a great place to select a simple meal. Several pictures below show the place.

Looks different than American food doesn’t it?

I had to time the shot below to eliminate people from blocking our view of some tasty food. I confess that my view of what is considered tasty has changed.

When we finished eating we went back out to the street, and I was surprised. It seems that at a certain time other venders show up and set up their things in the street. You now have the food venders in small store fronts, the sidewalk, now these new venders, and a narrow walkway down the center of the street as shown below.

When teams come from the states to visit, one place they are always taken is to snack street. It requires an hour by bus to get here from where that stay, but it takes me about three minutes from my room. In fact, I can look out my window and see the entrance.
