Sometimes things move very slowly
and then other times it is like right now. The contractor that is going to do
the masonry work had his next job put on hold so he called the contractor that
is going to dig the basement and asked if he could start tomorrow. The reply
was that he could adjust his schedule, so if it doesn’t rain earth moving
starts tomorrow; Wednesday, June 1, 2011. (By the time you read this the walls
should be built and I should be on my way there to do the carpentry work. I
will close this time gap soon.)
I was just sent three pictures to
get us started, so let’s take a look and get ready for this project.
The first piece of equipment to
arrive was a crawler with a bucket on the front. Adam, my nephew’s son yells
out, “Hey dad, you want me to dig where?” His dad’s response was, “You don’t
anywhere. You just watch.”
The orange lines mark the corners of
the basement. On the left side of the picture is where they dug to remove the
old foundation and construct the pier. The water you see is not a good sign.
That is not surface water, but ground water. The basement floor is another five
feet below the water in the hole. I wonder how serious this is going to be. We
will know when they bring in the backhoe and start digging.
All the soil from the basement and
new site drainage has to go someplace. Jon, my nephew, removed two sections of
fence and the shrubs to make way for the truck to back in with the soil to fill
in the natural hole found there.
