From time to time I will send you
links to information about issues in China. This blog is one of those times.
Over the years a small house church
in Beijing has grown to over 1000 members. Several times the government has
forced them out of their place of worship. When that happens the church stands
firm and meets outside in a public location in all kinds of weather. Because of
its size and its relationship to a solid middle class population, the
government has not decided how to shut this church down. The following link is
to an article which looks into this situation.
Another issue in China is the one
child policy. The following link is to information that is hard to read. For
example, ‘In 1989, the Chinese writer and broadcaster Xinran was in a
remote mountain village in Shandong Province having dinner with the headman
when she heard cries from an adjoining room, where his daughter-in-law was
giving birth. A while later, as the midwife collected her fee, Xinran noticed a
movement in the slops bucket. “To my absolute horror,” she recalls, “I saw a
tiny foot poking out of the pail.” But she was the only one who was shocked.
“It’s not a child,” the headman’s wife told her. “If it was, we’d be looking
after it, wouldn’t we? It’s a girl baby, and we can’t keep it.”’
A question
that is often asked is, “How many Christians are there in China?” The following
link is to research about this. Would you believe about one third the
population of the United States?
I hope you
found the information interesting and helpful when praying for the work God is
doing here in China. You are praying aren’t you?
