Backseat Ultrasounds

In a past blog entry titled “Wrong Sex” I mentioned how ultrasound was being used to determine sex and then in many cases if the sex was female an abortion would follow. I just received a news clip that told about doing ultrasounds in the backseat of a car.

China busts woman for illegal backseat ultrasounds on moms wanting sons (April 10, 2012, AP)
Police in China have arrested a woman for performing ultrasound tests in the back seats of cars and illegally telling mothers the gender of their fetus, state media said Tuesday. It is forbidden in China to tell expectant parents which sex their child will be because the practice has encouraged parents with a traditional preference for sons to abort female fetuses, skewing the ratio of boys to girls. Sonograms are allowed but gender identification is forbidden. The official Xinhua News Agency said a woman surnamed Hu was arrested last month in Wuhan (emphasis added) and is suspected of being part of a group of three people and a network of middlemen who provided gender testing across the city of 4.5 million. Women usually paid around 700 yuan ($110) for the service, it said.

When I look at how adorable little Chinese girls are and their potential with maturity, I can’t begin to understand how someone can simply throw them away with the garbage. Where is ones sense of value? Does not a fetus take on the image of God at conception? How does one dare destroy one of God’s creations and not fear to face God in the judgment? It is because they have no understanding of the living God and the wrath that comes forth from His holiness. If Christians understood the holiness of God there would be times when their behavior would cause them to tremble in their shoes and realize their wretchedness.

When we look at all the little girls that are cast aside in China, let us not forget that abortion is, in a way, a kind of birth control in America.
