Off To College

We had planned to leave early Wednesday morning on August 20th, to arrive at Stephen F Austin by 11 am. This would give us time to look around, get Jiajing checked in and leave for home in late afternoon. On Tuesday I had this nagging feeling that I needed to call the housing office and ask some questions and in the process I learned that she could not check in before 5 pm. As a result we decided to have an early lunch before leaving and come home later in the evening.

We had a great trip down, looked around the campus, checked on certain things and took some pictures.

Jiajing lives on the 12th floor in the building shown below.

The picture below is a view of campus from her dorm entrance.

Near 5 pm we went to her dorm to see about checking in and learned that we had to wait until 7 pm so we decided to have our evening meal and return to the dorm. It was about 6 pm when we returned and as we entered the foyer a student asked if we needed help. We explained that we wanted to check Jiajing into her room. He said we couldn’t officially do that until 7 but since her roommate was already in her room he suggested we move her things up to her room. We did and then decided we had better start for home as it looked like rain and we had almost four hours of travel ahead of us. We said goodbye and with sadness in our hearts we left Jiajing behind to begin a new chapter in her life.

Back on the road we made great time through a limited amount of rain. We were intently listening to an audio book to pass the time when in an instant we had a life threatening experience. The sound of metal against metal and the feeling that the back of the seat was in a desperate hurry to pass through you all occurring at the same instant was some experience. Barely conscience, I found myself fighting to gain control of the car to prevent a rollover.

This great drama was unfolding at near 70 mph in four lanes of moderate traffic at 10 pm on I635 just east of 75.

You will have to check in tomorrow to read what happened and as you read Mike and I will be on our way to China. Please be praying for our trip.
